SIMGOT EA1000 Review – The Child of EA2000 and EA500

The Simgot EA1000 “Fermat” is Simgot’s newest top-of-the-line in-ear monitor (IEM). It costs $219 and comes with a single 10mm dynamic driver with a special sputter deposition purple-gold (SDPGD) diaphragm. It also has a 6mm passive radiator. Its advanced driver setup, dual magnets, and dual chambers promise outstanding sound quality and technical performance.

The EA1000 has a stunning high-quality design featuring stainless steel shells and a classy Simgot logo. The sleek, angled faceplates exude luxury. The overall fit and finish are superb, with sleek beveled edges. The shells also include a special passive radiator chamber and vents for pressure relief.

The premium aesthetic of the included cable is enhanced by its silver-plated copper litz wires and aluminum foil shielding under the clear jacket. The chin slider and hardware are also top-notch. My only complaint is the absence of a balanced cable choice.

The box includes a great magnetic closure case, silicone tips, tuning nozzles, and extra o-rings. The unboxing experience and accessories were better than expected for the price.

Despite its fully metal construction, the EA1000 is surprisingly lightweight, at 11 grams per side. The angular, elongated shape nestles nicely into my ears. Combined with the over-ear fit, isolation is well above average. I’ve worn them for hours without fatigue or the need to readjust. The short nozzle design does mean getting the right tip fit is crucial, though.

Sound

SIMGOT EA1000 Review - FR Graph

The EA1000 is probably the most enjoyable earphone I’ve tried in terms of sound quality right out of the box. Harman’s influence is present. However, a slight emphasis on the mid-bass and a small peak in the lower treble gives it a U-shaped sound signature. Nonetheless, the overall tonality is still very pleasing. The bass is rich and controlled, with a powerful impact that forms a solid base for the warm and inviting midrange. Although the vocals are slightly laid-back, they remain focused and sound natural. On the other hand, the high frequencies are crisp and lively.

Lows

The EA1000 offers a solid, weighty low-end that prioritizes engagement over perfect balance. The bump in the bass is tasteful, not overwhelming, making it a great choice for those who seek a balanced sound with a touch of extra punch. The sub-bass is powerful, delivering a satisfying thump with a clear definition, especially for electronic and drum music. The mid-bass is slightly boosted, giving the bass a warm and full sound. The transition to the lower midrange is smooth, preventing any muddiness or bloating in the sound.

SIMGOT EA1000 Review

The EA1000 has above-average detail retrieval. Its note presentation is controlled and aided by a rigid driver and strong magnet structure. The decay and attack are faster and more aggressive, which helps balance out the increased fullness. The dynamics are on the higher side but could have been improved with a cleaner tuning. The EA1000 has a hard-hitting response in the mid and sub-bass but lacks tightness and definition in the mid-bass. While detail retrieval is good, the reduced separation is not the defining trait of this earphone. Instead, it is the impressive depth, power, and texture that contribute to its overall balance.

Mids

With a recessed lower midrange and progressive rise to 2.3kHz prominence for pinna gain, the EA1000 retains a mostly natural voicing and avoids excessive tonal coloration too. It remains a colored earphone, with a light warm tone that counterbalances a slight reduction in midrange note body. Despite the emphasis appearing large in measurement, the EA1000 sounds a little laid-back in the midrange with its bass and treble tending to draw more focus. Subjectively, I find this contributes to a slightly easier listening experience, as it avoids the intensity and strain. The progressive tuning does mean the earphone retains a very natural voicing, vocals sit just in front of midrange instruments but aren’t peaky nor sibilant.

SIMGOT EA1000 Review

The EA1000 has a recessed lower midrange and a gradual increase in prominence up to 2.3kHz for pinna gain. It maintains a mostly natural sound and doesn’t have too much tonal coloration. It has a warm tone that balances out a slight reduction in the midrange note body. Even though it may seem emphasized in measurements, the EA1000 sounds a bit laid-back in the midrange, with the bass and treble drawing more attention. This makes for a more relaxed listening experience, avoiding any harshness or strain. The tuning results in a very natural sound, with vocals positioned just ahead of midrange instruments without being too sharp or sibilant. However, they can be a bit raspy and overly articulated, likely due to a 6kHz peak with a small dip in between.

Highs

The EA1000 adds some extra energy and liveliness to the midrange without going too far. It has a small peak at 6kHz, making the upper midrange slightly more prominent. Compared to other earphones I’ve tried, the EA1000 is sharper and more detailed, with excellent separation. However, some fine details may be lost due to the emphasis on the upper-mids and lower treble. The treble is clean and clear but could benefit from a bit more control in the 4kHz range. The note attack is quick, but decay is a bit too fast, affecting the overall texture and thickness of the sound.

SIMGOT EA1000 Review

The EA1000 has great detail and contrast against its clean background. The lower treble is emphasized, reducing harshness and brightness. The upper-treble lift helps with layering and headroom, but it lacks airiness. The extension is good for the price, offering energy and detail. However, it lacks sparkle and micro-detail compared to more expensive models. The EA1000 creates a nice sense of space and well-defined layers, with subtle background details. It may not highlight all the details, but it adds nuance for a good sense of dimension and depth at its price point.

Soundstage

The EA1000 has an excellent treble extension, creating a spacious soundstage that extends wide beyond the head. The depth is good, forming an oval presentation. Imaging is good, with sharp positioning across the lateral plane. Directional cues are clear, and layering is well-defined. However, the center image could be sharper and less diffuse. Coronal positioning is average.

Sum-Up

The SIMGOT EA1000 “Fermat” is an attractive and solidly built IEM with a sound profile that provides a versatile tonality, featuring a warm midrange and powerful bass. It appeals to a wide range of music genres. The EA1000 lives up to its promise of being a top-tier dynamic driver IEM at an affordable price.
