Sound

The graph shows that the Wyvern siblings are nearly identical in sound, with a slight difference (1-2dB) in the mid-bass and low-mid sections. Again, there is a slight difference low treble region too. These differences are mostly not audible if you don’t have a trained ear, depending on the source you are using.

Saying that, in a technical analysis I can say that the Wyvern Black sounds slightly warmer than the Qing, and the Qing has slightly cleaner mids compared to the Wyvern Black.

Celest Wyvern Black and Wyvern Qing have been tuned following the 2019 Harman target response curve. They produce a clear sound with good extensions and low output distortion. With this customized high-performance dynamic driver, the Wyvern brothers deliver a high-resolution detailed sound suitable for most genres.

They pack a realistic and natural sound with a balanced three-frequency response. They deliver a clean and gentle sound with good extensions in the high-frequency regions.

The Wyvern siblings present a realistic and natural sound, and in terms of sound performance, the three frequencies are balanced, the low-frequency volume is moderate, mid-frequency vocals are centered in the middle of the sound, and the sound is delicate and gentle.

The high frequency is translucent, the brightness is moderate and not shrill, and the instrumental articulation is smooth, and it can restore the details of the music well, and to master the different styles of music such as pop music, classical music, rock music, etc.

Lows

Both Wyverns deliver rich and powerful bass hits that are textured and strong. Despite this, they don’t overwhelm you. Instead, the deep rumble and impactful hits create a well-balanced, perfectly timed, and highly satisfying sound.

The sub-bass has a deep sound with great texture. The midbass hits hard without being overpowering. The notes have a nice weight to sound realistic. Every detail is clear. The agility in this section is truly impressive.

Mids

The mids are impressively transparent with well-defined notes that are full-bodied and free from any harsh peaks. It’s a refined and palpable sound, not overly lush, with a neutral tonality that remains engaging.

The male vocals have a nice throaty and textured quality. They’re not too full, giving them an organic feel, but still sound authentic. The grit in the voice is noticeable without being too rough. Even though they’re well-defined, the vocals have a classic analog sound.

Highs

The treble range is no different than the rest of the frequency range. It is gentle with a good presence and it is detailed. Highs also extend well without hitting that harshness threshold.

Furthermore, the treble carries good detail with great definition and this contributes to the perception of clarity. The effortlessness and smoothness of the signature come from the perfect coherency between the three regions.

Technicalities

Both IEM offers good stereo imaging, they have a wide and deep soundstage with precise instrument separation. There is plenty of air between the instruments and it is quite easy to follow individual instruments on stage. The layering and the positioning of the instruments are clear and distinct.

Sum-Up

Harman tuning for the masses. If you love the Harman-style sound but are tight on the budget the Wyverns will make you happy that’s for sure. Their sound performance for the asking price is very good.

But what’s more attractive about the Kinera Celest Wyvern Black and Wyvern Qing is the quality of the design of the shells. They are not plastic like other brands in this price range, they are 3D-printed with medical-grade resin and they look as premium as many expensive IEMs.
